I offer a range of mentoring and editorial services, so do get in touch if you'd like me to work with you on your novel / short story.
I have been editing fiction for more than a decade, including for literary journals and publishing houses. I have a passion for bringing new authors' work to a wider audience, be it with significant structural changes or a final polish before submission. I have a PhD in creative writing and have lectured widely on the subject.
Below are the types of editorial work I offer, though I am open to a combination of these. All edits include 1-2-1 telephone consultation upon completion of my work. Alternatively, I can provide a mentoring service as you compose your work-in-progress.
Editorial Review
I will read your manuscript / story and provide a detailed 6 - 8 page editorial report. There will be no line edits or in-text comments, but I will offer comprehensive insight into the strengths and weaknesses of your work, and what I feel you need to do to bring it up to publishable standard.
Structural Edit
A broader edit, more of an overhaul, where I tackle significant aspects such as character development, plot and structure. I may suggest changing scenes or point of view, re-ordering chapters. This is for you if your book / story is complete but at a developmental stage.
Copy Edit
This includes extensive line edits, making use of in-text comments to really get deep into the work, giving it a thorough polish as I would a book due for publication. I will address aspects of grammar, pacing, style, voice, phrasing - basically anything I feel will elevate the work. This is for you if your work is in good shape but would benefit from a professional editorial eye.
I can also offer bespoke advice on how and where to submit your work, be this an agent, a publishing house or a literary journal.
For rates and questions on how we can work together, just drop me a note. I look forward to hearing from you and helping to bring your words into the world.
